A Wife Loved Like The Church

Archive for April 2011

I have a habit of biting off more than I can chew. I set goals for myself that seem achievable, but are pretty unrealistic {especially when raising 2.5 kids}. And then when I fail, I am overly hard on myself.

In January 2010, I set out on a quest to accomplish 30 things before I turned 30. All great goals, though some were a bit lofty. Like knitting my girls a blanket, when I can’t even knit. Or sewing a dress, when I don’t know how to sew. Or getting my teacher’s certificate {which in Iowa would have meant getting my Master’s and in Texas means redoing part of my undergrad}. Then there was a cross country move, financial choices for not taking a trip overseas and realizing why on earth would I want to start my own business {I am so not a business type person – I will leave that to Jon}.

Now, while I typically would hang my head in defeat, I’ve realized, my 30 before 30 is about setting goals for things I want to accomplish. And it’s totally okay to change them up some along the way. While I might not have learned to knit in the last year, I did learn to finally bake with yeast {and that’s saying something!}.

So, without further ado, here is my revised 30 before 30 list {the first ten are the new additions}. And, if things don’t get done, I’m okay with that – so long as I keep making progress.

We still have some work to do before we {or should I say I} would consider us settled. But, slowly we have life blooming in our home.

The girls' room

Dining area {Go TEXAS!}

This is my favorite spot in my kitchen

Look at that baking cabinet {right about the Kitchen Aide} *happy baker sigh*

As you can see, we are painting over the red in the “dining room” that we have turned into our den. Once we are done, we will hang Jonathan’s guitars in the windows. I think it will look super cool. {And for the record, Jonathan spent his entire Sunday afternoon/evening painting for me. What a great guy!}

Here’s the contrast of color:

Now here’s a fun question:

What color would you paint our front door. I’m leaning towards blue. Suggestions?

Have you ever asked someone when they are due, only to find out they aren’t pregnant? Or, even better, has someone asked you if you were expecting, when you very clearly were not? I’ve always erred on the side of caution and just not brought up the belly in question. But, when it comes to social media, people can drop “pregnant hints” like none other. What then?!

Well, here are a few ways to tell if your social media friend is indeed, with child:

And if those signs fail to pass your “they might be pregnant” radar, then maybe this will help:

Yes, my friends, I am pregnant. I am 10 weeks along {tomorrow}, due the first week of November. Thankfully, I haven’t been overly sick, just some extreme nausea that can last mere minutes, several hours, or all day. Quite unpredictable. But, baby is well, and that is all that matters.

We just had our appointment with our midwives earlier this week. We will be delivering with a birthing center in South Austin. I am thrilled with the facilities, as it’s the perfect blend between home and hospital. I am exploring water birth as our delivery option, but am still in the research phase. If any of you have had a water birth, or know of good resources on them, please let me know!

This post will be linked with this week’s: Try New Adventures {with Alicia’s Homemaking} and Things I Love Thursday {with Diaper Diaries}.

Actually, our house is anything but quite right now. We are still in the throws of unpacking and organizing the new house. But we don’t have Internet until Wednesday. I’m currently writing this from Jonathan’s iPad. Which is harder than I expected, since the app isn’t letting see as I type. {So let’s hope I get this right the first time ;)}

I promise I really do have some fabulous posts coming. Ranging from new adventures to an update on my 30 before 30.

Stay tuned!
