Why I’m Bad at Having Short Hair

Posted on: March 21, 2011

I haven’t had my hair cut in nearly a year. I know it’s been that long, because I had it cut for my birthday last year {which is later this week}. And for my birthday this year, I’m having it cut again. Clearly, I don’t have a very good track record for regularly maintaining my hair. It’s not that I don’t want to, I just don’t make it a priority. At all.

Which is why I’m so bad at having short hair. Because when you have short hair, it has to be a priority. Hair cuts every 6 weeks {maybe even sooner}. I can’t remember to feed my dog some mornings, let alone have my hair cut.

But my bad hair cutting track records doesn’t stop me from wanting short hair like this:

Or even as short as this:

While I’m having a hard time finding photo evidence on my computer, my hair was this short for a time in college. And fire engine red. I. Kid. You. Not.

I just love short hair. I think it looks pretty good on me too {in a totally not vain sorta way}. And when I see other people with short hair, I’m always a tad envious of how cute it looks. Yet despite my love of short hair, I am no good at maintaining short hair. Which is why, come Friday, I’ll be getting my hair “trimmed” not “cut”.

But, I am going to mix things up this year and get feather hair extensions. Ever heard of them? I just discovered them from a friend who had some put in a few weeks back.

I love that top picture of you, that’s about my ideal length. I tend to get my hair cut chin length, then let it grow for 6 months (to about my shoulders) then repeat–I’m not into maintenance at all! Twice or 3 times since becoming a mom, I’ve gone super short, but I can’t get it re-cut every 6 weeks, so that grows out too (goes thru all sorts of crazy phases, requiring barrettes etc.)–and I don’t really like how I look {reminds me of teenage boy :-(} but it’s so easy to deal with. Anyway, those feather things look interesting, can’t wait to see the reveal!!!

I like short hair, too. I’m not convinced it always looks good on me, though. It’s 1/3 mannish, 1/3 matronly, and 1/3 cool. Dexter likes it, and if I could get it trimmed every 6 weeks, I might commit. But I get my hair cut 2 hours away, so that’s not going to happen. I secretly want to try a really short cut like Emma Watson (Hermione) has, but I haven’t worked up the courage.

You could totally do the Emma Watson look.

Thanks!

PS-You will totally pull off the hair feathers. I’m intrigued to see how they look!

sarah! you should totally chop off all your hair when you turn 30! perfect time for a new look and i think you should go uber short like that pic- it would look adorable!

I like having long hair, but do find satisfaction in going in for the big chop every once in awhile. I’m definitely not into maintenance at all, which is bad because although my hair is long, I have bangs, which require regular trims.
I like your hair long how it is right now, it’s very pretty and feminine. Those feather things are awesome. Kind of reminds of the look of dreads without the committment.
I’m determined not to go super short with my hair now that I’m a mom because I feel like lots of moms do that and then never go back. Then you end up with middle aged and older women only having short hair. I really want to be a long-haired old lady someday, hopefully it will be white! πŸ™‚

I love the top picture! Are you SURE you don’t want to cute your hair short?

Love your hair now, though, and I must admit, I was surprised during blissdom at how well you’ve mastered a low maintenance routine. You rock it!

I can totally see you with the hair feathers, which I could never pull off! haha…:D πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Oh, and I”m totally with you on haircut frequency. I’m lucky if I remember to get mine cute once or twice a year.

I’m with ya all the way sister. I love short hair and always envy good short haircuts on others. I kept mine short last year, but the hubby prefers long. So I’ll fancy him for a bit and I’m sure I’ll go short again sometime.

Thanks ladies! I do love me some short hair, but I don’t think I’ll be taking that route for a while.

Alicia M – I’m with you on wanting to rock long hair as an old lady. My mom’s is white and shoulder length and I love it!

That top picture is so cute. Look forward to seeing your new cut.

You totally rocked that short hair! I can’t wait to see your new do! I know you will rock it too. πŸ™‚

[…] Today I’ll be celebrating with a pancake breakfast, my favorite birthday dinner {poppy seed chicken}, spending gobbles of time with my wonderful family, enjoying a free dinner at Applebee’s and getting my much needed haircut. […]

[…] will have a post tomorrow to debut my feather hair extensions, but will quite back down for a few […]

Hmmm….I like the longer hair. Very sexy. I always hated Sharon Stone’s hair, for the record.
