Birds of a Feather… {My Feather Hair Extensions}

I have feathers. In my hair. On purpose. And quite frankly, they kinda rock.
I have four sections of feather extensions {two on each side}. Two are larger feathers {more of what you think when you think “bird feather”} and then the rest are long and thin {think rooster feathers}. I’d totally go for more, but, as it turns out, feather extensions aren’t cheap. Here in Austin, they average $20-25 a section. Thankfully, my awesome new stylist said she wouldn’t charge me for each extension, just one.Β You can buy kits, but it seems just as pricey to me, since they are geared more toward salons.
The extensions last up to 4 months. As your hair grows out, you can go back in for them to readjust the feathers {or, with some pliers, do it yourself}. Once the feathers are in, you can wash and style your hair as normal. I was a little worried the first time, but the feathers did fine. My larger feathers reminded me of what a wet bird looks like {sort of poofy and crazy} but they calmed down. I’ve been told, the feathers take on your natural oils with time and blend in completely with your hair. I haven’t noticed that yet with the two larger feathers, but have with the thinner ones.
So far, I’m in love with them. Love, love, love. Jonathan was a little shocked at first – just because I had gotten four sections and, honestly, because of my two big feathers. I think they freaked him out a bit. π I figure it’s just a stepping stone to preparing him for me getting dreads.

LOVE them! Seriously cute!!! Totally considering saving up for those. Probably need to wait until I’m home full time though π

LOVE! They look so good!!!!!

You look so cute!!! I love how they go with your shirt and necklace…and just your overall hair color.
π
I like your haircut, too!

Your hair cut and the extensions ROCK! The shirt is beautiful too. Dang, you’re one cool momma-so Austin!
Oooo dreads, I hope you go there so I can live vicariously through you!

You look amazing. I had no idea what was coming when I read that post title. I have never heard of feather extensions, although I have had hair extension and my best friend has dreadlocks.

Hi Sarah,
Love the look of the rooster feather extensions in your hair! I think the problem with your larger feathers is they look like they are placed a little too close to your scalp (making the feather stick out a little from your hair). Also I think your stylist got a little too much hair in the bead as well (which is an easy fix). At plume we have high quality feather extensions for everyone so feel free to check us out as well. Regardless the look is beautiful

I agree I wasn’t sure what to expect but they look cute. Love your top and your hair color in the picture is so pretty.

That is so cool! & really pretty! I love your hair!
You’ll have to put another picture up when it blends more π

Looks awesome! I tried convincing my husband that I need dreads, but he’s dead set against it – he’s convinced that dreads are due to dirty hair. Oh well π Hope your husband is more open

They look really cool with your hair color, too!!!
Have so much fun this week moving in! I know it’s stressful, but it’s also so exciting to get settled in all that space!
