Cravings of a Pregnant Woman – A Top Ten

Posted on: August 9, 2011

Pregnancy and cravings go hand in hand. It’s like peanut butter and jelly. Or peanut butter and chocolate. Or peanut butter and bananas. Or peanut butter and well, anything.

With all of my kids I have some crazy strong craving at some point in my pregnancy. A couple of months ago, all I wanted was eggs. Eggs. Eggs. Eggs. The weird part? I’m not a big fan of eggs {though all this egg talk does make me want an egg and cheese muffin}. Currently, I’m going through a fun rotation of cravings.

1. Cereal – Any cereal really. Cheerios. Raisin Bran. Rice Chex. But mostly, Lucky Charms. What is it about dried marshmallows soaked in milk that makes me fight the urge to eat an entire box in one sitting?

2. Tuna fish – Tuna fish sandwiches, tuna fish on my salad. Tuna fish straight from the can with a little salt and pepper. Strange, but oh so good {and hello protein!}.

3. Pasta – There’s not much better than pasta and pasta sauce. And when paired with some buttery garlic bread? Big time score.

4. Green smoothies I’ve continued perfecting my green smoothie. Added some broccoli and carrots. Talk about goodness in a cup. Seriously.

ย 5. Pita chips and hummus – Specifically spicy hummus. And multigran pita chips.

6. Hamburgers – From anywhere. With anything. Major bonus points if smothered in a fatty dressing, topped with bacon and avocado.

7. Tomatoes – Beefsteak. Big Boy. Early girl. You name it. If I can slice it up and eat it, I will.

8. Pancakes – Preferably with blueberries. Or chocolate chips. Ohh… or slices of banana. Dipped in pure maple syrup. With a cup of coffee. *drool*

9. Eggs – Like I mentioned already, I’ve had some crazy strong cravings for eggs. Especially our at home recreation of McDonald’s Egg McMuffin.

10. Cake – Chocolate. With chocolate frosting. And sprinkles. With a mint chocolate ice cream. Though, I’ve been pretty good and haven’t had any cake since Hannah’s birthday party and have taken to making my own low-fat ice cream. But boy, could I go for a slice of cake…

Anyone else starving now? No? Just Me? Ok, I guess it’s time to whip up another batch of pancakes.

Yum! Are pregnancy cravings contagious?

Last week I told Dexter to buy whatever cereal he wanted because I was going to eat something healthier anyway. (I’m a snob.) He picked Lucky Charms. I ate them every day.

They are totally contagious. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I am usually not a sugary cereal kinda gal, but dude Lucky Charms are where it’s at! Haha!

I haven’t had any particular cravings, but I have been easily swayed by every commercial, advertisement, anything anyone says about food. If you talk about food, then I instantly want it! And after looking at that delicious picture of pancakes, I think I’m going to go make myself some!

Like you, when I start eating Lucky Charms, I can’t stop! {And I’m not pregnant!}

Mmm Lucky Charms! I get sucked into eating lots of them every time Chris brings them home.

Some of these cravings need a recipe link. Chocolate mint cake and updated smoothie in particular. Those both sound wonderful! I have really enjoyed the yogurt addition to the green smoothie, thanks!

glad we went to phil’s ice house then ๐Ÿ™‚

Mmmm…delicious list! When I was pregnant, Avocado and Burgers together or individually were my major “have to have right this moment” cravings. I remember early in my pregnancy with Abby, sitting in the drive thru at Burger King screaming at the woman in the car in front of me because she was ordering enough to feed an army and I was so starved for a burger (must have been a need for protein) that I was actually shaking. Poor little Faith was strapped into her car seat in the back seat listening to me go crazy and was trying to remind me that the woman in the car in front of us probably couldn’t hear me. (ya…not one of my more proud mommy moments) ๐Ÿ™‚

Blessings,
Rosann

I already can make myself have incredibly superfluous amounts of saliva in my mouth at the thought of my favorite chicken curry from my favorite Thai restaurant. They offer take out so I can only imagine how much of that I will want whenever we have our first.

Oh you crack me up! I should totally follow this with a “Cravings of a nursing mom” Top 10 post. ๐Ÿ™‚
I think I’ve eaten my weight in cookies (any kind, but Oreos top the list) since giving birth.

And a hearty Amen! to the burgers.

Ooooooh, let’s see. I crave:

Fries
Guacamole
Eggs
Milk
and occasionally, fried chicken.

Dear me.

You are so weird ;). JK! I can’t believe you crave eggs. They sometimes make me nauseous and I’m not even pregnant :P!

All I wanted when I was pregnant was peanut butter sandwiches (on toast) and milk. Seriously. I think I lived off of these two things pretty much my entire second trimester and part of my third.

This is hilarious since I can SO relate. #4 is coming next March…complete surprise. Sugary, oh-so-bad-for-you cereal is always my pregnancy weakness!

I am starving now!! That green smoothie looks awesome. When I was preggers last summer all I wanted to eat was marbled cheese and ice cream. We found this local farmer and wow, that cheese was awesome! Funny thing is I have since gone vegan….weird! But I do miss that cheese! Enjoy all those foods!

This I can relate too! Mine is anything lemon flavored!
Fresh Lemon Slushes
Lemon Pound Cake
Pink Lemonade Koolaid
Not to mention Cherrios, Multigrain Cherrios or Honey Nut Cherrios
Cheese and Crackers
Vlassic Pickles!
