A Wife Loved Like The Church

Try New Adventures – Spending Christmas with Family

Posted on: December 16, 2010

Since being married, Jonathan and I have never spent a Christmas with our families. Not that we didn’t want to, we did. But we lived too far away and never had enough time off work to make a trip happen. Last year we were able to go to my parents’ for Thanksgiving and loved it. Now that we are in Texas, we are thrilled with all our family-for-the-holiday options. This year my parents, two younger brothers, and our family, will be meeting in Ft. Worth, where my older brother lives with his wife and kids. To make it even more fun, my SIL’s family will be there too. The last guest tally was 36 people. Eekk! {That’s a squeal of joy}.

I volunteered to plan out our meals for Christmas Day. And while it’s a big task {did I mention several teenaged boys will be there?!}, I am beyond excited to put my hosting, cooking, Christmas-loving skills to work. Here’s a small preview of our Christmas Day menu:

Breakfast:

Brie and Veggie Strata

Lunch:

Make Ahead Lasagna

Dinner:

Pork Loin Roast with sides and clover rolls

Call me crazy {cause I know I am!}, but I am really looking forward to this cooking adventure. Being in the kitchen with my mom and stepdad {both fabulous cooks} and enjoying the hectic, loud, loving family reunion just feels too good to be true. *happy sigh*

What are your plans for Christmas? Any favorite holiday recipe I should try out?

It really is awesome to have family close by. Our immediate families are 2-5 hours away, so road trips are pretty easy. I’m still getting used to switching off which family we spend which holiday with…but I’m thankful both sides of the family are semi-close!

I’m impressed that’ you’re in charge of the menu! I’ve never taken on anything quite so daunting food-wise. 😀 I’m sure it’s going to be great…

Love, Alicia

That sounds fabulous! We’ve been blessed to almost always see both our families at all major holidays (lots of traveling, but always worth it) so that’s been fun. This year we are hosting Christmas at our house for my husband’s family and we are going all out with an Italian dinner. 😀 I am SO excited! I love to cook and I love family and I love Italian! It will be a great Christmas! 🙂

Enjoyed reading this. Have fun with all your family! 🙂

Thanks ladies! I’m pretty excited about it! 🙂

We are excited too! What fun to all be in the kitchen at once! Hope there’s lots of help to clean up!! (So many !!!!, can you tell I’m thrilled?)

We always make these stuffed shells for Christmas dinner. Their red and white plus a green salad makes a festive table! Stuffing enough individual shells for a gathering the size you’re having would be a lot of work, but with so many hands available to help, it’s not out of the question.

Merry Christmas!

Sarah,
All the food sounds so great, You make me want to go make out our Christmas diner menu right now!
I hope all of you have a wonderfully Blessed Christmas.

How exciting!! The menu looks fantastic, enjoy!

Glad you get to be with family this year! I’m sure it’ll help drive away the “I want to go home” post-move feeling. The menu looks awesome. You had me at “brie.”

[…] 3. Food Selection – This has more to do with being in a bigger city in general, but I can’t get over all the wonderful options for food that we have. And while that doesn’t seem very Christmas-y, it is when you’re preparing to cook for your whole family. […]

Sounds like you have a wonderful family. Have fun! The food looks great.
