“All You Have to Worry About is Your Purse.”

Posted on: September 13, 2010

Those were Jonathan’s words to me this weekend when I started stressing about my trip this weekend to New York. Did I tell you I was going to New York? Well, I am. And I cannot wait. Lots of plans have been made {including a bus tour of the city and a trip to Brooklyn for some pizza} and a wonderful time will be had. Yet, insecure Sarah has a slight nagging.

Will I stick out?

Will I look New York cool {’cause there is a difference from Iowa cool to New York cool}?

Will all my hip New York friends think I’m lame?

{Have I mentioned I’m still in junior high?}

As I was going through my “Will I”ย list, Jon stopped me and said “All you have to worry about is your purse.” He went on to say that for the 72 hours that I am gone, all I need to worry about is having my purse. Don’t worry about naptimes. Don’t worry about training. Don’t worry about sticking out. Don’t worry about being lame. Just relax and enjoy being away.

Come Thursday night my only care will be having my purse – and getting a taxi from the airport to Manhattan.

Ohh sweet Jonathan. I’m sorry you’re fretting, but can’t wait to hear all about the trip.

I remember feeling really nerdy in Rome last fall when I broke out my Chaco sandals (http://www.6pm.com/chaco-z-2-unaweep-stamp-green). Cool in Seattle and Austin, not so much in Rome. Also, not super cool to try (I say try because sometimes the barista just glared at me) and order decafinado cafe because you’re 6 weeks pregnant. Especially when you can’t explain that to anyone haha. I’m sure you’ll do better than that, just take lots of black clothing items and no sandals from REI.

You are cool no matter where you are ๐Ÿ™‚ Enjoy this time! And you have a great husband!!

I think you are totally NY-cool material! Can’t wait to hear about your trip.

I am very good at worrying about my purse–probably in a very I’m-from-Iowa-please-don’t-mug-me kind of way. I’m pretty sure the whole time I was in London I walked around with my purse in front of my stomach and my hand resting on the zipper. I try to convince myself this is a cool and natural thing to do, but it’s probably not. I’ve never been pickpocketed though!

hey- did you mention why you’re going to NY? I think I saw something about “training”- what does that mean?? Regardless, have fun!!

So sorry you missed the give-away…such a bummer!

I’m going for a girls weekend away. Meeting up with some close friends from college. The training was in reference to the girls, nothing for me {or maybe training the girls is for me?!? – haha!}.

Squeeeeee!!! Won’t that be fun! Are you going to that pizza place by the Brooklyn bridge…what’s it called…starts with a “G”–soooooo yummy!

I am! I’ve been to the city three times and never gone. Hoping I love it as much as I think I will!

Trying not to be jealous… Anyway I think Iowa cool is much cooler than New York cool! Be yourself Sarah and you can’t go wrong. (Whenever I say “be yourself,” I say it like the genie on Aladdin when he is pretending he’s a bee, FYI, so say it like that when u r reading my comment, k?) Have a blast friend!!!!

Just wear black. You will fit right in. ๐Ÿ™‚ Have fun!!!

Repeat… Don’t forget the shoes. And have lots of fun!!

Awesomeness. I can garrantee you are way cooler than me! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Plus, I think you have style!

Great husband. Great advice. ๐Ÿ™‚
It’s hard for us moms to turn our brains off and to stop worrying/thinking about our brood and ourselves. It’s like our brains are always on hyper-drive; thinking about a billion things at once. Oi. It’s like the part in Harry Potter the Order of the Pheonix, where Hermione tells Harry and Ron how Choe must be feeling about Harry. ๐Ÿ™‚

Or don’t even worry about that, stick you ID an some cash in your pocket and you are free woman ๐Ÿ™‚
