A Wife Loved Like The Church

Archive for July 2011

Have you heard of Pinterest? Pinterest’s tagline is “a place to catalog the things you love”. And that, my friends, is exactly what it is.

Pinterest is set up so that you have different boards, where you pin things you love. Think of it as a cork board, where you “pin up” ideas, recipes, crafts, whatever you fancy, so you can refer to it later. It’s purely ingenious. Oh how I love Pinterest so. Especially the recipes… I could drool for hours.

Here are my top ten favorite pins:

1. S’more Nachos

2. The Babe with the Power Onesie – a great throwback to Labyrinth and totally something Baby Boy needs

3. Not By Coffee Alone – my personal mantra

4. Pillowcase storage – I so need to do this to my linen closet

5. Wrap made from one square yard – Talk about easy and adorable

6. Easy eggs for Egg McMuffins

7. Melting Snowman Cookies – Ok, I know we are no where near Christmas, but c’mon, this is fantastic

8. Homemade Liquid Soap from Bar Soap

9. Head Scarf Tie – I did this yesterday and it was really adorable!

10. Nutella Cookies – ‘Nuf said

Are you on Pinterest? If so, do you love it or what?! If not, join. Now!

In the last two weeks, I’ve started tossing and turning more and more as I sleep. Then, like a bolt of lighting, my sciatica has reared it’s ugly face making hip pain a major problem at night. I’m like the Princess and the Pea. I can feel every lump, bump, and hump in our bed no matter how many pillows I use. And when I get up, I limp around like an old man until my sciatica lightens up. It’s left me extra tired and wondering if the remainder of my pregnancy will be spent sleeping in the lazy boy.

And then I found this:

{Cozy Comfort Pillow}

Just looking at this picture makes me want to take a nap. A giant pillow to snuggle on that supports all the right places. Mama likes.

The only set back I’ve found is that it’s $69. Which I don’t want to spend on a pillow. But it sure is tempting at after a night of tossing and turning.

I’ve positioned my pillows so they mimic the Cozy Comfort, but unfortunately, they move around too much. And my tried and true methods from Julia and Hannah’s pregnancies aren’t seeming to work this time around, as Baby Boy is sitting a lot lower than either of the girls, making for some new adjustments. Sigh.  Perhaps I can get a large mattress cover and make my own Cozy Comfort? After all, it’s just a big pillow with a whole in it. How hard can it be to make?

If you’re pregnant, or have ever been pregnant, what’s your favorite sleep positions and pillows?

This week has been crazy. Tuesday was spent recovering from traveling to DFW and getting the girls back on a real schedule, cause the one they wanted was not working.

Then I had the chance to show a lot of grace to Hannah has she started having more and more potty accidents.

But, even in the challenging parts, Julia started swimming on her own – which was completely awesome.

And I realized, joy doesn’t mean life will be easy, or flawless, or even fun. Joy simply means that there will be a deep love of life that can’t be fully explained or defined. It will be there when your child pees on the living room floor. It will be there when you are battling bad attitudes at 6 am. It will be there when your child swims to you for the very first time. Joy is life. Joy is allowing struggles to mingle with triumph. Joy is knowing that at the end of the day, love is what matters. Not clean floors. Not perfect children. Just love.

What brought you joy this week?

You might remember how I shared a couple of weeks ago about Julia “swimming” on her own with a water noodle.

Last week, we moved on to the life jacket.

And this week?

This week, my sweet little girl is swimming completely on her own.

{Throwing up her horns}

She started off Monday, while we were visiting Katie. She’d swim a foot or so between Jonathan and Katie. Then Tuesday, at our pool, she started swimming about two feet from the stairs to me.

Yesterday was the big day. In deep water {for her that is} she swam about 4 feet from the side of the pool to me. Completely under water. Without any help.

I can’t tell you just how excited I am for her! She loves it and is really proud of herself {as she should be!}. It is so awesome to see how she’s progressed in the last couple of months, from being nervous about being in the big pool to swimming on her own. She’s rocking it! The funny part is, I really can’t take any credit for teaching her how to swim. Other than her seeing Jonathan and I swimming, I haven’t shown or told her anything {perhaps just that she needs to kick her feet and move her arms}. She’s a natural fish.

How old were you when you learned to swim? Have you ever taught anyone to swim?

My house is clean, it’s a three day weekend, I’m snacking on some chocolate chip bread and I’m getting my hair cut and styled {in the middle of the day} while a friend watches the girls.

Need I say more about my Friday Joy?

Well, I will.

We are heading up to DFW on Sunday to spend a little time with the Atwoods. And Monday? Monday I get to finally, in real life, meet Katie {from Hageration}. We both lived in Austin, went to UT and probably crossed paths a dozen times, but never knew each other until the last 1+, when Katie found my blog. Now she’s back in the great state of Texas {amen} to visit family. So I’m crashing her vacation. 😉

Until then, our family is going to be hanging out in Austin, perhaps visiting Volente Beach or just spending extra time at the pool.

What is your Friday Joy? What are your weekend plans?
